Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Reinsurance Underwriter to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in assessing and underwriting reinsurance risks, managing programs, and ensuring compliance with both client objectives and regulatory requirements. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the growth and profitability of our reinsurance portfolio while building and maintaining strong industry relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Assessment & Underwriting
- Evaluate and underwrite reinsurance risks in line with company policies and guidelines.
- Develop effective underwriting strategies to optimize risk selection and pricing.
- Analyze data to identify trends, assess risks, and inform underwriting decisions.
Reinsurance Program & Treaty Management
- Support the implementation of reinsurance programs aligned to business objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with reinsurers, brokers, and other stakeholders.
- Verify reinsurance slips after placement.
- Assist the Broking Manager in treaty placements by preparing data, bordereaux, and supporting claims processing and recoveries.
Financial & Portfolio Management
- Monitor the performance of the reinsurance portfolio, including profitability, premium income, and loss ratios.
- Prepare regular performance reports for senior management.
- Ensure accurate recording of transactions, premium collection, and account reconciliations with Cedants.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Maintain internal underwriting policies and procedures.
- Conduct audits and reviews to ensure best practices in underwriting and reinsurance programs.
Business Development
- Identify and pursue opportunities for growth of the reinsurance portfolio.
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, reinsurers, and industry partners.
- Represent the company at industry events and stay updated on market developments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications in reinsurance/insurance (ACII, ARe, etc.) will be an added advantage.
- Proven experience in reinsurance underwriting, broking, or related fields.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management abilities.
- High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure
